Each time we read a book to our preshooler we should do a Book Walk. Doing a Book Walk helps children to learn about books and how to use them. Find a special time every day when your child is interested and you have time to enjoy the book with your child.

Before reading the story,

  • Show your child the Front Cover, Back Cover, the Spine and Title page of the book.

  • Point the to the Title and read it to you child

  • Point to the authors name and say it, explain to your child that this is person who wrote the words in the book.

  • Point to the name of the illustrator and say it, explain to to you child that this is the person who drew the pictures in the book.

  • Ask your child to look at the picture on the cover of the book. Ask what he or she thinks the book is about.
